Junkers JU-87 "Stuka": the devil on wings.
Stuka is the diminutive of the German term "Sturzkampfflugzeug" which translated means "dive bomber". Because this was precisely the greatest strength of the Stuka: to swoop down on its target and attack with a lethal accuracy of +/- 5m. This made it the emblem of Germany's supremacy in the skies of Europe at the beginning of the conflict and a symbol of the regime's propaganda. His baptism of fire took place in 1935 as a member of the Condor Legion, sent by the Luftwaffe in the Spanish Civil War.
The Junkers Ju-87 "Stuka" was a German two-seat ground attack aircraft operational during World War II designed by Hermann Pohlmann for the Junkers Flugzeug und Motorenwerke.
It was before the second World War, during the Spanish civil war, when the Luftwaffe acquired universal fame for the expertise of its pilots and the power and technology of its aircraft. Among his most famous aircraft were the Stuka dive bombers. The aircraft was easily recognizable from the ground by its silhouette with inverted gull wings and its faired and fixed landing gear reminiscent of the claws of an eagle.
When there was no time to see the arrival of a squadron of Stuka scanning the skies, the chilling roar of the "trumpet of Jericho" was responsible for terrorizing the enemy. The fearsome and famous Stuka siren, located under the wings, served to cause a panic effect to the enemy, something that has been considered by many to be one of the first acoustic psychological weapons in history.
